What to expect at OGC Camp Houston

Levels
If this is your first OGC Camp:
Girls will be separated by levels as they arrive on the first day. We will write on their hand the level they have competed and level they will be training. Please note that every group will be mixed levels combined but gymnasts will be training their own skills to their upcoming level they are planning on competing this season. Gymnasts will be encouraged to communicate with coaches to work on their particular goals.
If your gymnast wants to be with her friend(s), please ask your gymnast to let the coaches know as long as they are in similar levels.

*** Important PARKING Announcement***
Please enter the gym from the back entrance. Front entrance is for the gym's own campers.
OGC Campers please park in the back EVERYDAY, where there is plenty of parking. Check in and attendance will be in the back entrance.
Please do not leave any valuables in the car!
Please do not park in other businesses parking or risk being towed!

Parent's Viewing Area:
The lobby space is very small, quite limited and can barely accommodate a small number of spectators. In addition to its small size, there is insufficient seats and we need the area for 100+ gymnasts' to use as snack and lunch areas. Moreover, it can become uncomfortably warm. While you are welcome to watch, please note that we may not be able to ensure your comfort.
SNACKS/LUNCH
Please remember to bring a towel or picnic blanket so they can sit and eat while keeping the gym clean. They can roll up their towel/blanket and shake it when they get home. Do not shake in the gym or viewing area.

Water Bottles/Hydration
Please bring a water bottle that can be closed, sealed or is spill proof. Water containers with straws (specifically Stanley Cups) tend to be tipped over because they are make for car cup holders. They are prone to make a huge mess in the gym and make the floor slippery in uncarpeted areas which pose a serious slip risk.
We encourage gymnasts to stay well hydrated and they can get a water/restroom break at anytime they request one.

Remember Your Grips
A common item that is forgotten are grips (if your girls needs them). Also remember to bring hair ties or any other item they currently need.

Safety:
The safety of our campers is our top priority so if we feel that a gymnast is not ready or is beyond her level of readiness, we may move them to a different group during or after day 1 of camp.
Day 1. First day of camp is where Staff and campers get to know each other and Staff want to see what campers can do on their own. Staff will be talking to campers about their personal goals for this camp week on each event. Staff and campers communication is extremely important to us because we need to learn about not only personal goals for each camper but also injuries and mental blocks. You might not see on this particular day many new skills being learned ( however it can happen) but you will see more intensity and progress in the next 3 days when Staff and campers start to know each other, feel comfortable communicating , trusting and learning.
Be prepared :
Campers will be tired and at times very sore after camp. It is absolutely normal. Make sure they stay hydrated during and after camp, swimming helps relax muscles or warm bath plus good night sleep.
Participation and Kindness:
At OGC we promote a safe space where girls support each other. Bullying among girls will not be tolerated and girl(s) will be dismissed with no refunds. We hope to instill kindness, empathy, and respect during camp.
Private lessons:
Lessons are offered by coaches as independent contractors and are NOT part of OGC camp activities. Not every staff member offers lessons but offered for an additional fee. Camp will send email prior to camp dates with staff availability for private lessons. Some gyms will charge gym rent fees on top of coaching lesson fees. Please pay your gym fee at the OGC desk prior to your lesson. You may pay in advance if you wish.
It is not OGC but local gyms policies and we are unable to circumvent them.
We want to remind you that campers will be spending 22-23 hours at camp doing gymnastics. They will be tired after camp. Please take this factor into consideration when booking lessons.
Other Food allergies:
OGC provides non peanut snacks twice daily. If campers bring their own s please be considerate of campers with food allergies (especially peanuts). If gymnasts bring peanut snacks, please wash hands before and after to keep it off the equipment.
